God's GPS...The Bible

A few months ago I was in Kansas City for a writer’s conference. I was not familiar with the area and was looking down at the GPS to make sure I was following the instruction carefully to get to the venue. The flashing lights I saw in the mirror indicated I should have been paying closer attention to the street signs and speed limits and construction zone warning than I was my GPS.
I had the chance to meet one of Overland Parks finest as she pointed out that the speed limit had gone from 55 to 35 due to posted construction work.
I knew the Scottish accent of my GPS might get me in trouble that day but it wasn’t his fault I was looking to the wrong source for my direction.
You know, often I get people’s opinion confused with the posted word of God. His instructions to me in the Bible are clear and based in love to guide me.
Mr. Smarty pants from Scotland had no way to know about the orange work cones and warnings to slow down that were just posted. I was looking in the wrong place to get where I needed to go.
Look to Him, pay attention…and watch out for road blocks and warning signs!
Isaiah 8:20
Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.
Psalm 119:105 (King James Version)
105Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Choose.....

I'm so thankful for the insight others have that help put things into perspective at times. The bible in the foundation of our truth. We always return to scripture to validate our choices as Christians. I am, however, thankful to the men and women who faithfully follow(ed) God and share their insight to encourage others to do the same.

We choose to follow God or to reject Him, not only once, but daily.

Today...what will you choose?

I enjoy C.S. Lewis and this quote reminds me to Choose....

"When the author walks on the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right...something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise...it will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to stand up."~C.S. Lewis

Joshua 24:15

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Finding Direction...At The Cross...

My family had a wonderful time celebrating New Year's Eve with family friends. We simply relaxed and ate pizza and played games and giggled at our host's dogs who had wonderful tricks to show us.
Both of our friends work in a very stressful fast paced environment of hospital emergency rooms, one a physician and one a P.A. who often sees the difficult side of life and often death.
They both have a wonderful sense of humor, as you could imagine would be necessary to balance the difficult nature of E.R. physician's lives.
Our friend Jayne had a cute little ginger bread house sitting in the middle of the dinning room table that, upon further examination, revealed quite the display of unusual characters on the outside of the lawn around the house. Instead of turn of the century Christmas carolers, there was a dog with sun glasses, a police officer, and a few not so "ladylike" ladies etc.

You see, Jayne worked in San Antonio before moving back to the mid-west. She had collected several little figurines that depict the culture of a Barrio in character form which were popular "gumball machine" items in that area. Her husband, our friend Cecil, recently surprised her with a collection of several more of the unique (and even controversial) characters. The art work and imagination that went into making these small figurines was very interesting. We really enjoyed studying them and coming up with the back story for some of them.

Before we left their home on Saturday, Cecil handed me my favorite of the collection as a gift.
I put it in the window of the car going home and happened to snap a picture capturing directional signs in the background. I thought it was a very appropriate reminder for New Year's Day 2011. Some of us will need to turn completely and find our direction.

You see, many of us will be facing new chapters, new opportunities, second chances, or facing the same rut of doing it our own way one more year. How has that been working for ya?

I believe we each have the opportunity to start this first week of 2011...Finding Direction...At the Cross!
Walk in light this year friends...His name...Is Jesus.

John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Thank you Cecil and Jayne for this precious reminder; Here's my photo...
